John Foy

Irish Parents

John: Well my Dad was born in Ireland. He came over to New Mexico, that’s another story though. And then my mother lived in Chicago, although she was born, as close as we can figure, either in Ireland or on the boat coming over. But she never would fess up to it which way it was, because back in those immigration days you know…

Interviewer: So they both were Irish?

John: Yeah, they were Irish and both of them named Foy. So my father’s name was Foy, and my mother’s name. Which caused me a little trouble in the Army every time they would say what is your mother’s maiden name? I would say Mary Lee Foy. It is!
